I thought that was fog. It is very white and the dust storms I've seen have had colour.

Some most awesome additions.

I recall on one occasion whereby I saw my first "rainbow clouds" and commented to a friend that I had seem them reported as a precursor to earthquakes. he sent me an email the next day and added a link to a news story about a massive earthquake in Chile, which happened to coincide with the direction we saw these "rainbow clouds". Coincidence? Probably!

This is fer real.  Came across this the other day - and posted the story on my travelers website - hehe think I added a new destination to their traveling lists.  This is Fly Geyser in Black Rock Dessert, Nevada.  And it looks like it should be in the Wizard of Oz. There are two videos at the link too.

"Nestled on a patch of private land in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert, the Fly Ranch Geyser (known commonly as the Fly Geyser) is one of the state’s coolest attractions, though many residents still do not know it exists. Fly Geyser, which spews waters about five feet high, lies about a third of a mile from State Route 34, a road which functions as the only viewpoint since the geyser is not open to the public.

Before becoming the Martian-esque, “We come in peace” waterworks it is today, the Fly Ranch Geyser was just an ordinary man-made well drilled in the early 1900s. Eventually piping hot, geothermally heated water began to rise through cracks in the well and up to the ground’s surface through what is now Fly Geyser. Though workers tried to cap it off and prevent leakage of the hot water, their efforts were obviously unsuccessful.

In 1964, Fly Geyser began erupting with scalding water in multiple places, after a second poorly-capped well was dug not far from the first. The repetitive eruptions dissolved minerals and over time, the mineral deposits developed the mount and various terraces that now surround the ever-growing geyser. And thanks to thermophilic algae that thrive in the wet, hot conditions created by the geyser, breathtaking reds and greens streak the mounds.

While the original Fly Geyser no longer hisses steaming water, another mount two additional geysers in the area have followed in its path. Though the attraction is located on private land and not open to tourists, visitors who make arrangements with the owners ahead of time are often able to get a closer look for a fee."

Everyone should go to the link in Sara's post above. There are some downright amazing pictures there.

Love the first pic: hole punch cloud and a rainbow. I cream my jeans whenever I see clouds such as these; shame it's such a rare treat that my jeans generally remain uncreamed.

The Waitomo Glow worm caves have become one of the number one things to see people vacationing to New Zealand. The cave gets its name from the tiny glow worms that cast magical lights as you float through the cave.

The Paria Mountains' 18 miles from Kanab, Utah in Hwy 89. Paria Wilderness, Utah, USA. These mountains are found beside a dirt road that connects to Highway 89 just before the Paria River. Hwy 89 takes you from Kanab Utah to Page Arizona. The side of the mountains have spectacular colors (better that the Grand Canyon, Bryce, the Painted Dessert, the slot canyons and even White Pocket) due to their encrusted minerals like iron oxides, manganese, cobalt and others that geologists describe.

Koh Ker, Cambodia. Temple in Prasat Pram made of brick is spectacularly clothed in tree roots of the strangler fig. This parasitic tree usually feeds off the tree and eventually kills its host. On this occasion the roots of the fig are both destroyer and scaffolding giving support to the loosened brickwork of the left hand tower.

Great upload, Sarah. Were I wearing jeans, they'd be creamed. As it is, I have a nasty mess on the floor to clean up.

There are some even more colourful in China. If I'm not mistaken, a link from a previous post of yours here has a pic - the one Mac suggested we should all visit.
