10 Premonitions That Should Not Have Been Ignored

Post by Your Mom on Wed Apr 15, 2015 8:18 am

Premonitions; we've all had them, right? Right?

In a previous post, the prof and aussie spoke of the knowing and, one day I'd like to expand on this as that has been part of my life ever since I can remember.

I dreamt the exact scenes of 911 8 months before they happened and I may share that experience here one day.

Here are some more "premonitions" that should not have been ignored.

I always say trust your instincts and will recount a tale or two whereby I rightly did not ignore my premonition!

There are literally thousands of predictions made every year, including premonitions felt and seen by ordinary people. While most premonitions are probably unfounded and unrealized, they can sometimes be terrifyingly accurate.
10Miguel Panduwinata

For a couple of days before he was due to fly to Bali to visit his grandmother, 11-year-old Miguel Panduwinata kept asking his mother about dog and about what happens to souls when people die. His mother, Samira, found this very odd as her boy was normally happy-go-lucky and always in a good mood. However, now he just seemed nervous and unhappy which was especially weird since he and his brother were about to have a fantastic holiday that they’d been looking forward to for quite a while.

Miguel’s mood plummeted further as the day of the flight neared. He peppered his mother with more questions about burial and death. The night before the trip, he was so agitated his mother had to hold him in her arms the entire night.

The next day, Samira sighed with relief as Miguel seemed to be back to normal, chatting away with his older brother as they took the train to the airport. Everything went smoothly and before long they reached the airport and were all set to board the plane. As Samira watched her boys walk away, Miguel suddenly turned and ran back to her for a last hug. He told her he would miss her and fearfully asked what would happen if the plane crashed.

The astonished mother did her best to reassure her son that all would be well with him. Miguel’s brother also tried to pacify the young boy. With a sad expression, Miguel finally agreed to board flight MH17.

Just two hours later, Samira received the devastating news that the plane crashed. She barely made it home before fainting of shock. Later, she and other family members of those on board the plane would learn that it had deliberately been shot down.

Samira firmly believes that Miguel had a premonition of the plane’s fate. She regrets not taking what he said seriously and continues to struggle with the idea that her boys may have been saved if only she postponed or canceled the flight.

9Anna Schoff

10 Premonitions That Should Not Have Been Ignored

Rose Gilbert, who lived in Tucson, Arizona, had a lifelong dream of becoming a theater star, hopefully on Broadway. Sure, she gained valuable experience in her hometown, but nothing could dim her hope of making it big in New York. She was 56 years old, and time was running out. So keenly did she feel this that she started looking for an apartment in New York and soon found a suitable one.

However, her vocal coach, Anna Schoff, had a foreboding feeling of dread regarding her student’s plan to move to The Big Apple. While directing the last play Gilbert acted in back in Tucson, Schoff got a really bad feeling that something terrible would happen to Gilbert if she carried out her plan to move.

Telling Rose Gilbert about her premonition only succeeded in turning the woman against her, and she accused Schoff of jealousy. Gilbert became even more determined to go to New York after this and ended up doing exactly that and living with two roommates, John Dalton and an unnamed woman.

On the evening of June 21, 2005, the female roommate returned to the apartment after work only to walk into a scene of horror. Rose Gilbert’s lifeless body was lying on the kitchen floor with multiple wounds visible on her body. She had been stabbed to death. When the police arrived they stumbled across another horrific scene in one of the bedrooms. John Dalton was lying face-down on his bed, not wearing anything but a towel. The blood spatter on the walls indicated that he had been hit over the head with extreme force. It seemed that the bad feeling Anna Schoff had turned into a terrible reality.
8Martin Luther King Jr.

Martin Luther King Jr. allegedly had at least two premonitions leading up to his assassination in 1968. The last one was the night before his murder. He revealed some of what he was feeling during what would be his last sermon.

In March 1968, Martin Luther King Jr. was making plans to visit a few places, including Memphis and New Jersey. However, it seemed that he started feeling he might not make it to New Jersey at all. During a meeting with Oliver Lofton, director of Newark Legal Services, King plainly stated, “I might not come back.”

Then, in what would arguably become his most famous sermon at the Mason Temple in Memphis on April 3, 1968, King once again seemed to be bringing the message that he might not be able to fight for civil rights alongside his people for long. This was after his flight to Memphis was delayed due to a bomb threat.

During his somewhat downhearted preaching, he said that difficult days lay ahead for the people and that he could see the promised land but might not get there with them.

He recalled a time in the ’50s when he was stabbed during a book signing. He spoke of his infamous speech, the Birmingham protests, and the past signings of civil rights bills. He spoke of dog taking him to the mountaintop and thanked Him for the life he had lived so far.

The very next day, King was standing on a hotel balcony with Reverend Jesse Jackson on the verge of leading a march by sanitation workers. A loud bang sounded and King crumpled to the floor. He had been shot in the neck. An hour later, doctors at a nearby hospital declared his time of death.

Following King’s murder, riots flared up in more than 100 cities across America. James Earl Ray was found guilty of the murder and sentenced to 99 years in prison. He unsuccessfully appealed for a retrial and passed away in his prison cell in 1998.
7Princess Diana

The death of Princess Diana, or the “People’s Princess” as she was fondly known, sent shockwaves through the world. Accusations started flying that the paparazzi were to blame for the horrific crash that claimed the life of Diana, her boyfriend Dodi Fayed, and their driver, Henri Paul. It seemed the sad story would never come to an end as people cried and grieved for months on end.

Six years after her death, things finally seemed back to normal. But it was short-lived. In 2003, Paul Burrell, Diana’s former butler, once again sent shockwaves throughout the world when he said he had a personal letter from the princess in his possession in which she revealed that she had a feeling she would be murdered. He did have an actual letter, but some have suggested that Burrell might have faked it.

At that stage, he was in the process of having a book published which was also the means he wanted to use to reveal the contents of Di’s letter. Burrell stated the princess clearly mentioned in the letter that she was scared someone was out to cause her harm and that a car accident would be used to cover up the fact that she was murdered. Apparently, the motive behind all this was to ensure that Prince Charles could get married again to the woman he really loved.

It was also alleged by a newspaper reporting Burrell’s story at the time that Diana knew and named the person in the letter that she thought was responsible for wanting her out of the way. However, that particular name had never been publicly revealed.

Many believe that Burrell was just exaggerating things to create publicity for his book. Some do believe his claims, though. The only facts that we know for sure are that Diana did lose her life in a horrific accident in 1997, and the whole truth surrounding the incident might never be known.
6Greg Buckley

10 Premonitions That Should Not Have Been Ignored

Before a dreaded green-on-blue event happened to Greg Buckley Jr., he seemingly had a premonition that something bad was going to take place and that he would not be alive to relay the story. Buckley was an American soldier stationed in Afghanistan. He was training Afghan soldiers in the Garmsir area in 2012 so that he could go home sooner as part of the NATO withdrawal program.

Apparently, one of the trainees seemed to develop a personal problem with Buckley. At one point, the trainee told the soldier to his face that he (Buckley) wasn’t needed in Afghanistan and that he shouldn’t even be there. Greg Buckley confronted the trainee, but the man kept uttering these same words the entire night. The incident led to the two men almost coming to blows. This confrontation was the start of Buckley’s unease.

He allegedly mentioned the incident to his superiors, stating that he strongly felt those who were being trained would eventually turn against the Marines, but this could not be confirmed by news agencies. Shortly after the altercation with the trainee, Buckley was shot dead. He was only 21 years old.

Buckley’s father spoke to journalists after he learned of his son’s death in Afghanistan. He mentioned that his son felt a strong premonition of his own death, and he told his father that if he didn’t come home before November that year, he wouldn’t get home at all. According to Greg Buckley Sr., his son even asked that he prepare his wife and sons for the news that Buckley Jr. had been killed on his own base.

A couple of days after learning the happy news that he could leave Afghanistan early, Greg Buckley Jr. was murdered by a man he had trained. The man who shot him went on to kill two more Marines before being apprehended. The attack happened inside Buckley’s outpost.

5Joe Meek

10 Premonitions That Should Not Have Been Ignored

Joe Meek was a music producer at the time that Buddy Holly (pictured) was a world-famous singer. The producer was very much into the occult and especially tarot card readings. So, when Meek received a particularly ominous reading, he was convinced that Holly would die on February 3, 1958.

Meek claimed that he tried unsuccessfully to contact the singer on numerous occasions to warn him. When he finally did reach him, he relayed the distressing premonition but claimed that he received no real reaction from Holly. The fact that Meek was known to be eccentric probably didn’t help matters much. February 3 went off without a hitch and Meek most likely breathed a sigh of relief while Holly was too busy touring to notice the date.

Strangely enough, however, a year later Holly was on his way to Minnesota with the Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens, when their light aircraft crashed in a cornfield, killing them all. The date was February 3. Turns out Meek’s premonition came an entire year early.

Things didn’t work out for Meek, either. After being sued by a composer for “stealing” a melody to create his biggest hit, Meek started suffering from depression. The resulting lawsuit dragged on and money was starting to dry up. Eventually, Meek seemingly lost it and shot his landlady to death before committing suicide. Very sadly, the court ruled in Meek’s favor a few days after the tragedy.
4Eryl Mai Jones

10 Premonitions That Should Not Have Been Ignored

In 1966, Eryl Mai Jones, a preteen girl from Wales, had a dream that her school building disappeared because something black ran down and over it. The little girl was terrified of what she had dreamed and tried to tell her mother about it. However, her mother listened with only half an ear because she had many things to do and sent her daughter to school as usual.

A couple of days later, Eryl’s premonition came true in a very tragic fashion. Some sources say the tragedy happened the very next day after Eryl had the premonition. On October 21, 1966, the coal tip located on top of the hill overlooking Aberfan–the town where Eryl and her mum lived–suddenly gave way. Tons of rocks and sludge demolished just about everything on its way down the hill, finally sweeping through Pantglass School. The above photo shows the area before the incident. The school is the red brick building on the left.

Eryl Mai Jones was one of the 144 that lost their lives that day. It has been claimed by various sources that Eryl had told her mother earlier that month that she was not afraid to die. This was even before her startling dream. Was the dream merely a coincidence or a definitive sign of what was to come? Whatever the answer, the story of Eryl Mai Jones is certainly one of the eerier ones out there.

Re: 10 Premonitions That Should Not Have Been Ignored

Post by Your Mom on Wed Apr 15, 2015 8:44 am

Shortly before coming to Brazil, I toured Europe with my then 19 year old son.
We checked into our hotel in Amsterdam the night before we were booked  to fly back to England via Belgium.
The first thing I did upon entering the room was to open the window even though it was mid-winter. As I opened the window, I whooped in delight at what I found on the window sill - a large bag of wicked weed.

My son and I were in heaven and smoked this manna from heaven to our heart's content. When we arrived in Belgium the next day, we smoked up until it was time to check in. However, we hadn't smoked even half of that bag of manna and I was torn as to what to do. I was tempted to merely stuff it down my trousers and take it with me, however a loud voice in my head said no! I was torn! What would you do? To my son's horror, I threw the remains into the bin and we boarded the plane. He said I should have just left it on the bench and in hindsight, I agree.

Now, this plane was a cheapy (dirt cheap) and would take us to a minor airport outside London (Stanstead). As we deplaned, we were ordered into a single file and a German Shepherd was paraded up and down the line with its handler instructing it to "find the drugs". The dog walked up and down the line and then pounced on the guy in front of me knocking him to the ground and proudly sitting on his chest. Had I decided to stuff that delicious bag of weed down my trousers, I would have been fucked!

As an aside, this was the first and only time I have seen a drug dog at a British airport in more than 20 arrivals there. Furthermore, either unwittingly or otherwise, I have safely transported cannabis across international borders on more than one occasion. I will, no doubt, recount those here (seems a good a place as any for a damned good story).

The lesson to be learnt here is, that no matter how crazy it seems, listen to your inner voice!

I had a dream. So said MLK, but so did I.

My earliest memory is of a scene where my brother fell from a tree. This exact same situation happened about a week later. He fell from the self same tree I dreamt, not just any tree and winded himself. My reaction? I laughed! Not because he was hurt (he was a sadistic and evil fucker), but because I had seen the scene before. He was flopping around and gasping like a fish out of water and vowed vengeance between gasps. He duly got his vengeance on a dish served cold much later.

But the most amazing dream of my life, I shall relate below.

Post by Your Mom on Wed Apr 15, 2015 8:30 pm

The most powerful dream of my life happened in 2001. It was the most powerful because I awoke from it as if the events had truly happened; my pulse was racing and the sweat was pouring off me - physiological responses exactly as if I had witnessed the events. I told everyone I knew about this dream, but the response was lukewarm to say the least.

About 8 months later, I received a call from my old dragon (mother) whereby she urged me to turn on the tv (I still had one then) and was shocked when I did. The images I saw on the screen were the exact same images I had seen in my dream. It was as if my eyes were the cameras that recorded the carnage. I saw the Hudson river, the view from the helicopter as the towers burned and finally collapsed! I saw it all and it was as if I were there witnessing everything!

The ironic thing is I am not even sure if the events even unfolded as I saw them.

For example, did planes actually strike the buildings? My dream only centred on NY, and didn't include Washington, where a plane was obviously not responsible for the damage to the Pentagon..

Did I forsee the actual events or the media circus?

That 911 dream would have completely flipped me out!!

As long as I live, I'll never forget 911. I had slept late that day and as I was walking through the living room to go make coffee, I turned the TV on just in time to see the plane hit the second tower.

After a minute of shock, I absent-mindedly did what I always do in times of crisis. I picked up the phone and dialed my brother's number and then sat there completely dumbfounded when a recording kept saying, "The number you have dialed is no longer in service. Please hang up and try your call again."

Huh?

Then I remembered. It had been 14 months since he'd died.

How the mind can play tricks on you.

Okay, here's the ghost story, Mom. Gonna paste it in sections because I don't know the capacity of this forum.

Hauntings
05/06/06

I never really believed a house could be haunted, simply because I had never seen any actual evidence of it myself. The house I lived in prior to this one was a 100+ year old farmhouse and there was never anything that occurred there that would have led me to believe there were people from the spirit world hanging around. But this house I'm in now is a different story. So many strange things have happened here it's turned me into a believer and I've decided to start documenting some of it.

The house I'm in now is also a 100+ year old farmhouse. I don't know the history of the house beyond the fact that the previous owner died here. He was quite young (42) and died after a lengthy battle with cancer.

The first really strange thing that happened was one night, really late at night, I was sitting in the living room reading. I had a roommate just moving in and she had a box of CDs that she had set on the floor at the end of the sofa that had CD's stacked up against each other in rows, so you could read the spines. I heard a noise come from the box, looked around to see if it was one of the cats (between the two of us, we had four cats) messing around (it wasn't), then thought maybe a mouse had gotten in there. I got up and looked in the box and there was no mouse but at the end of one of the rows, two CD's were leaning away from the stack, leaned up against the side of the box. I assumed that was the noise I had heard, that it was gravity, or the house settled or something, and they just fell away from the stack. That's what it sounded like anyway, the plastic cases on CDs clanking together.

So I blew it off and went back to my book. A few minutes later, I heard it again. Exact same noise, a little louder this time. And this time the cats heard it as well and were all cautiously moving in toward the box to check it out. I got up, looked in the box, and the two CDs that I had just seen leaning against the side of the box were now standing back upright, right in line with the rest of the row.

Another incident: I have a Cool Whip bowl sitting on the floor in the living room downstairs that has a bunch of cat toys in it - fuzzy mice, catnip mice, the rings from milk cartons. There are also three plastic balls, which I bought as a set, that have jingle bells in them. The cats HATE them and never play with them. (Not even sure why they're still in there).

One night, again while I was downstairs reading, all of a sudden I heard someone upstairs playing with one of those jingle bell cat toys. The sound of the bell was unmistakable and I could hear the ball rolling up and down the hallway (which has no carpet). I thought, "Who on earth is playing with THAT toy??" I got up, flipped the upstairs light on and poked my head over the landing and didn't see a toy or any cats. Went back downstairs and all the cats were downstairs. I thought, "Ok, strange. Maybe I imagined it."

A few minutes later, back on the sofa reading, I heard it again, coming from the upstairs hallway. I immediately counted cats (they were all downstairs with me). I went over to the Cool Whip bowl and all three jingle balls were in the bowl. I went upstairs and searched around everywhere for anything that could have made a similar noise. Nothing.

Another time: Roommate comes downstairs late at night and says, "Uh.....You're gonna probably think I'm crazy, but could you come up here for a minute?"

So I follow her upstairs. She stops in the hallway, just outside the doors to the bathroom and my bedroom and says, "Do you smell anything strange?" I sniffed the air a couple of times and said, "Noo...?" (I'm thinking she thinks she smells smoke/fire and getting nervous...)

She says, "Try again..."

So I walk up and down the hallway, sniffing the air, go into both bedrooms and back out again and say, "Nope. Still don't smell anything." She says, "Just wait a few minutes." Just as I was starting to think she really was crazy, I reached for the bathroom doorknob and got hit - like a furnace blast - with the strongest smell of MEN'S cologne you can imagine. It was SO strong, it made me nauseous. Other than the previous owner, no men have lived in this house since I bought it almost four years ago. And it was very clearly men's cologne, not women's.

Lots of other stuff too, like goofy moving shadows on the wall that you can't trace to anything, lights coming on by themselves, the cats all watching and tracking something that isn't visible to me, etc. The big bedroom upstairs, where I sometimes sleep, has definite cold spots.

And the chandeliers. There are two identical antique chandeliers in this house, one in my office, one in the living room. The chandelier in the living room, I swear, does this Medusa-like dance about twice a week around 3 a.m. It's ONLY the one in the living room that does this and, for the longest time, I thought it was simply my eyes playing tricks on me. Then one night I happened to be watching Ghost Hunters on TV and they were interviewing a woman who lived in an old home that she believed was haunted. She described one of the antique chandeliers doing the exact same thing. I mean, it was eerie listening to her because she was describing exactly what I had been seeing here.
(later edit: The chandelier thing went on almost every night for about six months, then stopped and I’ve never seen it happen again).

Another odd incident happened last summer. I had just washed and dried a load of jeans and went to get a pair out of the dryer to put on. Halfway through the day, I felt something in the left front pocket that I assumed was change. I reached into the pocket and pulled out a key. It was just an ordinary key, looked like a house key. But I had never seen it before, certainly don't remember putting any key in my pocket. I've tried the key in every door in this house and I've checked it against all the doors at my mother's house. I have no idea where it came from or what it goes to. I still have it though, it's sitting on my kitchen windowsill.

Re: 10 Premonitions That Should Not Have Been Ignored

Post by Sarah522 on Thu Apr 16, 2015 12:53 am

One interesting thing is that my roommate got into a conversation with one of her coworkers about ghosts one day and told her coworker about some of the strange things that have happened here. Coworker asks where she lives & she tells her the name of the town. Coworker says, wide eyed, "Where in _____?" She tells her where and the coworker says, "OMG!! I KNOW that house! My ex-brother-in-law(?) used to live there. That house IS haunted. That's why he moved!"

Then she proceeds to tell my roommate several Amityville-ish stories about things she heard went on here. For example, off-and-on cold pockets in the upstairs bedrooms (which is true), excessive flies that seem to congregate upstairs, even in the winter (also true, but not as excessive as she made it sound and nowhere near Amityville-like).

She gave my roommate the name and number of the relative who lived here, but we never got around to calling him. Roommate's since moved on and I've lost the number.

My roommate for awhile was trying to get some kind of documentation to the things we were noticing. She spent hours upstairs (where most of the strange things have taken place) with a tape recorder. The only thing that turned up in an "omg-did-you-hear-that?" sort of way was what sounded like a voice clearly saying her name in a loud whisper. When I first heard it, it made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. At the time, I even suspected that maybe she did it herself just to freak me out, but there have just been too many other things that have happened (a lot of it since she moved out) for me to believe that now.

She also took pictures upstairs using a digital camera. Now before you glance at this picture and automatically call me a woo-woo, hear me out. We tried for days to debunk and find a logical explanation for this picture.

As I said my roommate had some time on her hands and was trying to document some of what was going on here. She took a ton of pictures over a period of weeks and nothing showed up on any of them except a few orbs (which I believe, in most cases, are dust particles). Unfortunately, this is the only picture of that series that I still have after a computer crash.

When I downloaded this batch of pictures to the computer, at first I didn't notice anything unusual and was getting ready to delete them, then decided to zoom in on a few and saw this. This was taken in the bedroom upstairs where the cold spots seem to show up. The background image is the original, untouched photo and then I added the two inset enlargements.

This was one of a series of five or six pictures she took all at the same time, all facing in the same direction in the room, all with her standing in the same place. You can see the flash from the camera reflecting in the center of the post. We were the only two people here at the time and I was downstairs typing. This was the only picture where the boogyman (as I affectionately call him) showed up.

After we noticed the reflection in the bedpost in the photo, we immediately went upstairs to see if we could find what made the reflection. Most people who see the picture say it looks more "mechanical," a reflection of something in the room, (most people, in fact, think it’s a fan, but there was no fan up there) than "boogyman," but we could find nothing in the room, mechanical or otherwise, that could have caused a reflection like this in the bedpost.

Over the next several nights, we tried to duplicate the conditions exactly as they had been when she took the picture - same time of night, same lights on, her standing in the exact same place she had been in when she took the picture. When she took the pic, she was standing in the middle of the room and the doorway is off to her right and slightly behind her.

Long story short, we did eventually duplicate the picture almost exactly - with me standing in the bedroom doorway like a boogyman. But that is NOT me in that original photo.

Re: 10 Premonitions That Should Not Have Been Ignored

But by far the freakiest, make-a-believer-outta-me incident happened on March 12 of this year (2006).

I have an electronic treadmill that I dragged in from the breezeway with big visions of getting myself in shape for summer. It was plugged into one of the brand new outlets that the (licensed) electrician replaced for me this past winter. This treadmill has all kinds of safety features built in. There's a little clip attached to a thick string that you're supposed to attach to your waist and, if you should happen to fall, the clip snaps off your clothing and the treadmill stops. There's also a safety feature built into the on/off switch - it won't turn on unless your feet are on the siderails - and then you have to turn it on, off and then on again before it will start.

So I'm in the living room eating lunch and this freaking treadmill starts BY ITSELF, right in front of my eyes. I got up, walked over to it, looked under it (no cats), looked at the on/off switch and it was in the off position. But it was running. All by itself. With no human feet on the rails. I unplugged it and it stopped. I left it unplugged.

Later the same day, I was in the kitchen fixing dinner when, all of a sudden, I heard this buzzing noise. Immediately I recognized the sound and broke out in gooseflesh because I KNEW that damn thing was unplugged.

I turned the burner off on the stove and cautiously made my way into the living room where the treadmill was buzzing away. The very first thing I noticed was that it was NOT plugged into the wall. The three-pronged plug and cord were in plain view, lying on the carpet. The on/off switch was in the off position, the lights on the control panel were lit and the digital numbers were racking up like someone was walking on it and the tread was spinning.

Just about the time I was getting ready to bolt through the front door, it stopped.

I've tried (and talked to a couple of electronics people) to come up with a logical explanation. The display console (displays the time, distance traveled, etc.,) does have a 9-volt battery in it to light up the LCD and I thought maybe something shorted out and that one lone battery could have caused it to turn on. Not very likely, I'm told.

It hasn't been plugged in or turned on since that night. Not even by ME! Weather's pretty nice now, I'll just walk outside. (note: it's back out in the breezeway now).

Of the people I've told about this, the only ones who really believe me are the ones who know me well in real life, and it’s questionable with them. I probably wouldn't believe it either, if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes.

They're Baaaaaack!
09/12/07

The house has been relatively quiet since the treadmill incident. The only thing out of the ordinary that I've noticed is, on three or four different occasions while I was watching it, the TV would suddenly click off. It didn't blink off, like it does when there's a power outage - it clicked off like someone clicked the on/off button on the remote. Each time, I reached out for the remote, clicked the on/off button and it came back on. Other than that, things have been relatively quiet.

I finished my work last night at about 2 a.m. Had a snack & got ready for bed and was out in the living room sitting on the couch with the TV on. The cat was snoozing soundly on the afghan draped across the back of the couch right behind me.

All of a sudden, I heard footsteps on the ceiling above me, which corresponds to the big bedroom upstairs. With the sound of the first footstep, the cat immediately woke up and started staring at the ceiling. The footsteps were very loud, and very clear, and you could actually feel the vibration of them. I followed them with my eyes across the ceiling as they made their way from one end of the room to the other, as did the cat (upstairs it would have to have been someone walking from next to the bed to the doorway of the big bedroom).

My first thought was: That was no cat. The floor up there creaks a little, even when I walk on it, but this sounded like a full grown man. I glanced at the clock and it was 3 a.m.

I started looking around for my mom's cat who I was babysitting for at the time and who weighs about 25 pounds and discovered she was sound asleep on one of the kitchen chairs, oblivious to the commotion.

As the steps moved from one end of the room to the other, I clicked the mute button on the remote and the footsteps immediately stopped.

The cat behind me by this time was wide awake and was very slowly, very cautiously creeping her way off the sofa to go investigate. The hair on her back was standing straight up, something I've never seen her do before, not like that anyway. She slowly crept her way through the living room, into the dining room, until she had reached the bottom of the stairs. Then she just stood there, wouldn't go upstairs to investigate any further.

In the meantime, I was 100% convinced I had an intruder in the house. The first thing I did was to go into my office and get the cordless phone, then went into the kitchen and grabbed a steak knife out of the kitchen drawer (stop laughing), and then went back to the couch with the phone in my hand, thumb poised on the 9, ready to dial 911 at the slightest further noise.

Eventually the cat decided there was apparently no immediate danger and had slowly worked her way back to her perch on the back of the sofa, but she was still in hypervigilant mode.

Now the ceiling where I heard these footsteps is in the big bedroom upstairs, which I currently have blocked off because of a bat problem (hehe... tell you about that some other day). I realized that if there was someone in that room upstairs, the only way they could have gotten in was through the bedroom window on the 2nd floor.

Suddenly I remembered that I have an extension ladder lying on the ground at that end of the house. It's one of those things I keep reminding myself to put away in the garage, and keep forgetting. So I got up and went into the kitchen to get the flashlight. I went over to the window in the living room at that end of the house and shined the flashlight on the ground right where I knew the ladder should be, fully expecting to see it instead standing upright leaning against the house. It was on the ground right where I left it.

I kept the TV muted and sat on the couch with my knife and my phone, heart pitter pattering, for 15 minutes. Then a half hour. Then an hour with no further suspicious noises. I finally dozed off somewhere around 5 a.m.

This morning as soon as I woke up (in the light of day - whew) I went upstairs and looked around in both bedrooms. Nothing appeared to have been disturbed. All the windows were closed and locked, and nothing was out of place. And no bats!

Think I'll go put that ladder away now.

Yesterday I was sitting here typing and got up to go in the kitchen for something to drink. When I walked out there, the freezer door was standing wide open. Now the last time I had been in the freezer was a few days before that when I took some chicken out for chicken soup. The fridge isn't level and so - if the door happens to not close tightly when I shut it - it immediately falls open. Not three days later.

Another thing happened just now. Was sitting here typing, decided to get something for lunch and went to the kitchen. The chair I'm sitting in is absurdly uncomfortable and so I have two pillows I use for the small of my back. When I walked back into the living room, the red pillow was clear across the room, about 15 feet away from the chair, leaning against the wall and resting with one corner on the floor. I could buy it if one of the cats just knocked it off the chair, but I don't think they could throw it all the way across the room.

03/15/09

I was outside cleaning my car and came in for some lunch. There are three bottles of vitamins sitting on the counter. One of them is a heavy glass bottle of multivites.

I put something in the microwave to heat up and thought while I was waiting for it to heat, I would check my email. As soon as I went into the next room to the computer, I heard something crash to the floor and bounce a couple of times in the kitchen (kitchen has carpet).

I went back out in the kitchen and the bottle of multivites was on the floor in front of the sink, which is four or five feet from the counter they were sitting on.

The other two bottles were still on the counter right where I remembered them being - about in the middle of the counter. The little cat was out here with me by the computer and the big cat was sunning herself in the bay window.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Things had been quiet around here until last night. The only things I’ve noticed since the incident with the vitamin bottle were that, on 2 or 3 occasions, I walked out into the kitchen to find the freezer door standing wide open. I did some experimentation and discovered that if you close the refrigerator door really hard – I mean really hard – it will make the freezer door pop open, so I can’t comfortably blame that on ghosts.

However, something happened last night that I cannot explain – at all. It was approximately 2 a.m. and I was just settling down to sleep. I was lying on the couch with my head toward the end of the room where the TV is, on my left side with my back against the back of the couch. Just as I was dozing off to sleep, all of a sudden I felt pressure against the small of my back, not light pressure. It felt like (my first thought) a cat laid down behind me (there wasn’t room for that though, as my back was directly against the back of the sofa). Just as I was formulating the thought that it felt like a pair of hands (or feet?) on my back, all of a sudden I was launched off the couch, like someone shoved me from behind as hard as they could. It literally catapulted me off the couch and I would have hit the floor in the middle of the room if I had not caught myself on the coffee table first. In fact, I DID hit the coffee table and have the bruises on my knee to prove it.

I suppose this could have been some sort of hypnagogic hallucination or some weird thing associated with falling asleep and starting to dream (?), but it felt just as real as I’m sitting here. If that was something paranormal, it is absolutely the first time it’s made physical contact with me. Pretty creepy.

^The above^ was the last incident that ever happened in that house. I lived in it for another two years or so after that and - nothing. Like that was the big sendoff and it was going off to haunt a more exciting place or something.

Thanks for sharing, Sarah! Later, I'll post my account of one particular house in which I lived. I was loathe to use the term ghost, preferring instead to say I could not explain what happened!

Here's another tale

I moved into the house in question in the 90s when I had only one child who was 3 years old. The house was built in the 70s and had no history of death, violent or otherwise. It was a spacious house with Italian tile flooring throughout and stood alone. The nearest neighbour was 40 feet (13 metres) to one side and the other side formed the corner with another street and was unoccupied!

On the day I moved in, my lazy, fat arsed cunt of an ex-wife did her usual nothing. After everything had been moved into the house, I decided to unwrap all the dishes (wrapped in newspaper to protect them in transit), wash them and put them away. After a gruelling day, (I did everything from hiring the removal truck to loading and unloading everything myself) I was shattered and went to bed early. During the night, I heard the sound of dishes on the draining board, but was too exhausted to get up and investigate.
The following morning, I was shocked to find that all the dishes and pots and pans and cutlery I had put in the cupboards and drawers the night before were all neatly stacked on the draining board! WTF? This was the start that ended up with me going to the real estate agents and asking after the history (they said they knew nothing).

Interesting stories. I never had a premonition. But I had a dream that felt like a premonition when I was a kid. Always stuck with me. Still feel like I lived it. Weird stuff.

That is weird for me. As my first memory was a premonition, I assumed everybody had them.
